Vision and Mission
The vision of Terra Firma Classical Academy is to provide a positive alternative to the inexcusable failings of public schools.
Within the United States, in both the private and public sectors, this sentiment is virtually unanimous:
Public schools are failing our children.
Every discussion surrounding the education system is framed around fixing it. The truth is that the system is based on faulty assumptions and bad philosophy.
The only thing declining faster than the quality of learning in our public schools is the state of our children’s mental health and general well-being. Public schools repress excellence and demand mediocrity, reward conformity, and punish creativity and individuality.
As a result of the education system’s longstanding commitment to total secularism, schools have lost any vestige of moral authority and reject all notions of promoting truth or virtue in their pupils. To make matters worse, in recent years the public education system has embraced and promoted radical political activism that trains students to resent their country, reject their culture, and think in terms of group identity, victimhood, and fragility.
Our aim is to cultivate virtue, self-reliance, and critical thinking skills in our students through a rigorous classical education with a special emphasis on the great works of Western Civilization. We are an alternative private school that promotes student autonomy by fostering engaging independent learning opportunities overseen by highly trained and dedicated teachers.
Using Socratic teaching models, students drastically outperform their public school counterparts by discovering and cultivating a deep passion for learning. Students engage in real-world, project based learning designed to empower them for the unique challenges of modern society.
We promote and reinforce the importance of faith, family, patriotism, and mental toughness in our students. We train our students to seek truth, embody love, and display virtue in everything that they do.
